Newly engaged couple Natalie Slyman and Nate Bethel are no strangers to showing off their cool, Southwestern-inspired Tower Grove South abode: the vibrant space has been highlighted on Apartment Therapy in addition to making frequent appearances on Natalie’s Instagram page. Here’s a closer look at some of the details that make this home so special.

House occupants and occupations?
Natalie, Nate and our two cats, Priscilla and Roxanne.

How would you describe the decor in your home?
Very little things we own are brand-new. In fact, I’d say that 80 percent of our items are from thrift stores or antique shops. We also both gravitate toward anything with an interesting color or that has a Southwestern feel.

What was your inspiration behind your decor and home organization?
I love anything that seems to have some history to it. I also like things that are a bit tacky, but endearing. I know that might sound odd, but if I spot something that is truly unique, I have to have it! I don’t feel inspired by color schemes or finding things that match. Instead, I focus on the individual item. If I like it enough I’ll find a place for it.

What are some of your favorite places to purchase home decor items?
I love St. Vincent dePaul Thrift Store, Savers and Value Village. I also love making a trip to Treasure Aisles, The Green Shag and Quintessential Antiques.

What is your favorite part of your home and why?
The elements that give it its character. I love the original light fixtures, the gold radiators, the dark wood throughout, the fireplace and the front balcony. These are things that now that I live with, I don’t know if I could live without.

Do you have a favorite individual piece of furniture, decor or art? Why is it so special?
This is a hard one, because I love so many things that we have. I’d say my favorites are the items that Nate actually built—our dining room table, our bed and the coffee table in our bedroom. The latter might be my favorite of all, as that one is really unique and Nate spent a lot of time on it.
